Old Navy Crew Neck Sweater - $20.95
Naturalizer Jinna Shoes - $90.00
Naturalizer Devin Booties - $93.75
Naturalizer Efani Sandals- $29.99

Total: $234.69

Having a baby really cuts into my shopping time. :-p So there were not many purchases in September.

I did, however, take advantage of Naturalizer's friends and family event to order a new pair of booties as my old, well worn pair bit the dust last spring. While picking out my booties, I couldn't resist adding a couple more pairs of shoes to my cart. The shoes I think will look great with jeans (once I can fit into them) and the sandals apparently make me feet look smaller (according to RDog).

More shopping is on the horizon for October. Baby and I did out first solo shopping trip this morning and it was success! We hit Homesense, Banana Republic and Carters and he slept the entire time. I got dressed AND wore make-up. I'm starting to feel like more of a human being lately (instead of a milk machine) and am getting ready to start blogging again soon.

Our baby boy was born on September 5, weighing in at 8 pounds, 15 ounces. The past few days have been a blur but here are some of my random thoughts on motherhood so far.

Labour and delivery - not as bad as I expected. I honestly did not believe that I would be able to do it and that a c-section would happen. It was surprisingly quick and not that bad. From feeling really painful contractions to having him in my arms took only four and a half hours. When I think back on the process, I am still in awe that I did it!

Breastfeeding - I told everyone I'd try it because I know it's better for everyone involved but again, deep down, I felt I could never do it. Well, this little guy took to it immediately and started feeding right away. He hasn't stopped yet. He is a hungry monkey who eats all the time! So I guess I'm breastfeeding!

Losing 20 plus pounds in a weekend is awesome!

I can see my feet!

My husband is amazing. He is the best baby soother, diaper changer, drink and snack bringer ever. He heads back to work on Thursday and I don't know how I am going to do it without him.

I never knew I could be so tired but so happy.

Old Navy Tank tops: $3.50 x2
Old Navy Chambray Cap-sleeve Dress: $23.06
Banana Republic Leather Link Bracelet: $12.49
Naturalizer Engrid Shoes: $33.89

Total: $76.44

Not too much shopping going on for a couple of reasons. First of all, I'm really kind of freaked out about not having a pay cheque for the next year. I do get employment insurance benefits but it amounts to about half of my normal pay cheque so there will be some definite changes to spending habits. I'm also not sure what is going to happen to my body postpartum. I gained a lot of weight during pregnancy (50 pounds) and have no idea what's going to happen to that when baby comes.

I'm not sure if the dress will be a keeper. I'll give it a few weeks and see how it fits postpartum. It should be ok because a chunk of my pregnancy weight gain went to my thighs. I predict lots of comfy dresses in my wardrobe for this fall until I get back into work-out mode. Dresses are the best for hiding chunky thighs!

The shoes are my birthday shoes. Naturalizer always sends out a $15 off coupon for birthdays so I always get a pair of sandals on super sale.

What I loved

Old Navy Rib-Knit Tanks

Lately, I have been wearing one of these tanks tops pretty much any day I am not wearing a dress. They are perfect combined with a stretchy skirt. There were also handy in the spring to layer underneath cardigans and blazers. I wish I hadn't bought any maternity shirts; having a collection of these tanks in different colors would have been sufficient. I did try the Motherhood Maternity tanks as well, which were not ribbed, and didn't like them as much. The ribbing really did a great job in hiding the ugliest bras ever, aka maternity bras.

Dresses (from Motherhood Maternity and Old Navy)

Pants stopped working for me early in my pregnancy as a result of some painful fibroids and passive weight gain to my thighs. That combined with the summer heat made dresses the best option for me. These three are my favorite and are on heavy rotation lately. Usually I am a polyester snob, but my favorite maternity dress (the polka dot dress) is polyester. It is so easy to wear and clean. I recommend buying dresses in easy- to-wear-fabrics for maternity days.

Maxi dresses and skirts (from Old Navy)

Wearing a maxi dress or skirt feels like pajamas to me. Since pregnancy is so damn uncomfortable in the first place, it's nice to be able to wear comfy clothes. The two dresses got a lot of wear in the spring and they are not even maternity (I just sized up).

My last maternity must-have is a swimsuit. I'm not going to post pictures of me in my Motherhood Maternity swimsuit because that image does not have to be on the internet. But I recommend to anyone who is pregnant in the summer and has water access, to definitely take advantage of it and invest in a good swimsuit.

I was in the pool everyday the weather permitted it and it made me feel so good! I could forget about the random aches and pains of baby-growing for a bit. It also made me feel good to be in a swimsuit that fit properly. I could have tried to squeeze into last year's suit or buy a new non-maternity suit in a larger size but for me it was really worth it to pay the extra money for a well-fitting suit.

I've been feeling very unpretty lately. RDog and I are trying to do some "last things as a couple" activities. One of of those things was our last trip to the beach as a twosome. We went for a sunset walk Saturday night and RDog got in paparazzi mode. H got some great shots that made me feel a teenie bit pretty again.

How far along: 38 weeks

Development: My baby app tells me our little monkey is the size of a bunch of celery but I feel that I am growing a much larger baby that that.

Movement: ALL THE TIME. This little guy never stops. On one hand I never really worry about kick counts because if I stop and think to myself, "when was the last time I felt him move?", he will immediately give me a big thump. It's bad because those big thumps hurt.

To give you an idea of what I was working with, here is the before picture.

This was taken before the old owners moved out. The room had hot pink walls and closet doors and a green door. I think this illustrates why you should never let teenagers pick paint colors (we also have a black room courtesy of a teenage boy).

I always knew this would someday be a nursery so I painted it two years ago when we started talking seriously about baby making. I was inspired by a light gray color I saw in the magazine Style At Home. This room had purple and blue accents and I knew it would work perfectly for either a boy or a girl. When I saw one of my favorite home blogs, For The Love of a House, used the same color in her kitchen, I was sold.

Here is the room today.

The color is Benjamin Moore's Gray Owl. I also had to repaint the trim because it was not my preferred semi-gloss finish. The doors also got a few coats of Benjamin Moore's Simply White.

We wanted a cozy rug for baby to play on. I know it's too small for the size of the room (baby is lucky to have a huge room and his own bathroom too!) but it's all we could afford right now. On the plus side, it's the softest rug I've ever felt.

In this corner, I placed a student's abandoned shop class project that I scooped up on the last day of school. I painted it using Benjamin Moore's Cloud White. I collect milk glass and have found a few old milk glass lamps over the years that I have rewired to be a little less of a fire hazard. Beside the lamp, is a stack of swaddles that I hope baby likes and underneath the table is a basket of stuffed animals that have been gifted to him.

We were very fortunate to have RDog's parents offer to buy us the crib and mattress. And they were very patient with me as I picked out the right mattress (no scratchy vinyl please!) It is topped with an organic mattress cover and an Aden and Anais crib sheet. Babies spend so much time sleeping, I wanted to get him the best stuff to sleep on!

In the corner is an old shelving unit that we've had for years. It's traveled from our kitchen, dining room, basement, office to here. I hope to upgrade to a nice locally made bookcase soon (something like this in white). The shelves display some of the gifts he has received.

Hopefully, he'll be stylish and like hats.

Originally, I wanted a glider that didn't look like a glider, something like this. But again it was out of the budget. We settled on this one from Walmart. It is remarkably comfortable. And because it was less than $200, I won't feel guilty about getting rid of it when baby gets big. It's too ugly to stay in my house forever!

This little shelf is one my father built for me when I was a kid to store my cds. We don't actually own a cd player but after a coat of paint, it became the perfect little shelf for books and knickknacks. The basket is from HomeSense and filled with blankets that were received as gifts (the top blanket was crocheted by RDog's mother).

On this wall, we have his dresser that my father built me years ago. I upgraded to a new, much larger dresser and gave this one to baby. It needs some artwork above it but I haven't found anything that is just right and baby won't notice for a long time anyways!

My mother was convinced I would not need a designated changing spot and pad, so I compromised and went cheap, picking up a cheap plastic changing pad at Babies R Us. If it turns out we don't use it, it's no big loss. The top drawer holds all the diaper changing essentials. Next to the dresser, we put my childhood table set.

I love opening his drawers, looking at his teenie clothes and smelling them too (baby smell is the best!)

On the last wall on the room, baby has lots of closet space (lucky kid!).

There's lots of room for all the diapers we've been gifted and his bigger clothes.

More room for future toy storage. Which is great; this Momma does not like messes!

On the bottom are my hospital bags. I'm ready to get this show on the road!
RDog's mother called this morning to see how "the mum" is doing. RDog's response was, "Well, every morning when she gets out of bed she sighs and says 'I'm still pregnant.'" That pretty much sums up how I am feeling lately.

I'm a big fan of the Jackie cardigan. At last count, I had 19 in my closet (yikes!). So when I spied the striped version for under $30, I knew I had to snag it.

No more maternity clothes for me. I'm nearing the finish line and have started thinking about what I will wear after my body gets back to normal (or close to it - hopefully - please, please, please). I can't wait to dive back into my closet and start playing with clothes again.

Worst moment: When my grandmother didn't come to my baby shower. She had been after me for years to have a baby. I remember when I got the all-clear to start telling relatives, she was one of the first people I called. She was so excited! So it really hurt my feelings that she did not come to my baby shower. She said she was too busy with farm chores to get away. She didn't even tell me or my mother. She told my aunt who passed on the message. And then after the shower was over, she called my parent's house but didn't ask to speak to me; she talked to my aunt. It would have been nice even if she had just talked to me on the phone to tell me why she didn't come.

I was also really sad that RDog didn't come to the baby shower either. All my family was there. His parents traveled four hours to be there too. RDog was away on a golf/boys weekend but got home the morning of the shower. I asked him to come but he said he didn't want to spend the money on gas (it's about a hour and half drive). I suspect the real reason was because he wanted to spend the day in the basement watching loud movies. I don't know what's going on with him lately; maybe he is going through some kind of pre-baby crisis. All he wants to do is sit in the basement and watch tv and play on his IPad. And his memory is HORRIBLE. The man has always been absent minded, but it has reached epic levels lately. I can vent here about him because he no longer bothers to look at my blog.

In the process of cleaning out the baby's room, I also had to clean out his closet, aka my second closet. The whole process took a lot longer than I expected; three days of cleaning out junk, washing furniture and clothes and putting everything away. A plus side of the cleaning out process was that I found this dress.

Yes, it is a dress. It's called the Sanur dress from J Crew Factory. I bought it a couple of years ago and immediately didn't like it because it was a strapless dress and I like to wear bras with straps. I'm not sure why I bought it in the first place (probably because it was on super sale!). I put it up on EBay but had no takers so it sat languishing in my second closet for a long time.

This week I rediscovered it and it turns out that the Sanur dress makes a perfect skirt for an almost 34 week pregnant belly. I'm excited to have one more option in my very small wardrobe.KDothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13947102395989006310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-649770831315511929.post-87314715874158691082013-07-11T20:48:00.000-03:002013-07-11T20:49:35.909-03:00Summer LovingAlthough not much is going on fashion wise (I'm basically recycling three outfits now), I'm having a great summer. This is the best I've felt throughout my entire pregnancy. I thought I'd share what I've been up to so far this summer.

Lots of laundry!

I'm such a dork.

I hate having messy stacks of t-shirts and sweaters in my closet so on my first day of vacation, I re-folded everything in the closet using my newly purchased Miracle Folder. And I had fun doing so!

Lots of reading. I'm sticking to pool reads and baby books.

Baking!

I love having a homemade treat in the house for RDog. He is getting spoiled lately. He gets breakfast made for him every morning and hasn't had to do any house cleaning since I've stopped working. I keep telling him not to get too used to this; things will most likely change when the baby arrives!

Painting. I've actually made a list of all the little things I want to paint over the next few weeks. Again, I"m a dork

First up, were these wooden chairs whose former bright yellow color has been clashing with our house (that we moved into three years ago). Eight dollars worth of paint and an afternoon later, they are a much better match. I should have done that sooner.

This week's painting project; two little tables made by my school's shop class students and the baby's dresser.

I also worked on putting together some favors for my baby shower this weekend.

I used the containers from our wedding candy buffet five years ago. I popped in some Bath and Body Works candles and used some washi tape to add a little color.

Speaking of our five year anniversary, we celebrated with a fancy meal out. :p

On our actual anniversary, I had two doctor appointments and a ton of errands to run. It was also the hottest day of the summer so far. By the time supper time arrived, I just wanted to veg by the pool so we got some yummy burger takeout to celebrate.

And lastly, after three years of having an empty living room, we finally have a couch.

Maybe now that our house is finally not looking so bare, I'll actually put together my blog house tour that I've been meaning to do ever since we moved in (three years ago - opps).
RDog and I went away on a mini weekend getaway last weekend. We hopped over to Prince Edward Island, one of our favorite places for quick getaways. It's great because there is so much to do; it's very much a tourist-friendly province. We spent the weekend antiquing and eating mostly. I'm all about crab cakes and lobster rolls this summer.

We also discovered this spot, The Dunes. It is now one of my favorite PEI spots. The gardens were so pretty, I couldn't resist taking a couple blog photos, even though I'm not feeling too fashionable lately.

The uncomfortable phase of pregnancy has set in. Who knew a year ago when I was doing an hour and half of Jillian Michaels workouts a day that walking up and down the stairs or even getting out of my chair would be such a challenge!

Dress: Motherhood Maternity
Shoes: Karen Scott
Flower: J Crew

I wore this dress to my school's graduation last week. The dress didn't fit right around the shoulders and revealed a bit too much of my bra. My quick fix was a lot of safety pins. I used the flower pin (in my school's colors) to hide some of my handiwork.

On the weekend, I wore the same dress to my cousin's wedding. Because this was a longer event and I want ed to feel comfortable all day long (and be safety pin free), I actually sewed the dress to my bra straps. There were absolutely no wardrobe malfunctions.

I liked the look of a flower on the dress so much, I used another flower accessory (again from J Crew) and added pearls from RDog and my clutch from Danier Leather.

By the way, that's my dad walking by in the background. We were just hanging around and waiting during the break between the ceremony and reception. RDog went into full paparazzi mode to pass the time.

He caught me and my grandfather. My Grandpere hates to get his picture taken. So of course, I encourage RDog to take as many of Grandpere as possible just to be a pain. I'm sure there were were some French curse words directed towards RDog at some point during the night. But it was all in fun. My grandfather is a secret sweetie underneath (at least that's what I tell RDog).

Last Tuesday night was prom night, one of my favorite nights of the year. I love to see the students dressed up and I love to get dressed up too!

I bought this dress about a month ago and was saving it for graduation events and my baby shower. I was a bit upset to realize that it didn't fit as perfectly as I originally thought, which seems to be the theme with any maternity clothing I can find.

The straps didn't sit right on my shoulders and anyone standing to the side of me could see right into my dress and check out my very stylish beige maternity bra. Uggggg! The temporary solution to get me through the night was lot of fashion tape and wearing my hair in front of my shoulders to try to disguise it.

I'm getting sick of maternity clothes. Then, of course, I had to torture myself and look back to see what I wore to proms of the past.

2010 - This one makes me realize how I have changed a bit fashion-wise over the life of this blog. I thought I was hot stuff that night but looking at it now all I can think is how awful that ruching is. It makes the dress look wrinkly.

Ok, this is the end of the rant of a hormonal pregnant lady who just wants a few pieces of clothing that fit her properly!

Have a great day!

Not a lot of posting going on here because I don't have a lot of post-worthy outfits. My clothing choices are rapidly becoming limited as I continue to grow and grow and grow. Right now I'm down to a handful of dresses and whatever color Jackie cardigan I feel like wearing that day.

I'm totally done with pants. Last weekend, RDog suggested that we have a fire in our fire pit and I said no because I didn't want to put on jeans. Silly me, I realized later that there is nothing wrong with wearing my Juicy pants (the only pants that feel comfortable) to sit around the fire.

Symptoms: Still struggling with dizziness. I had my prenatal check-up last Friday. Because my doctors rotate, I was able to talk about this with a different doctor (the last one told me to drink gaterade and I don't really like to drink that much sugar). This time we were able to figure out that the dizziness is likely caused by dehydration. It only happens on week-day mornings when I'm rushing around and not taking the time to drink enough water before leaving for work. Sure enough, this morning I made sure to stop and drink two glasses of water before leaving the house. No dizziness!

I get a little cranky when strangers make random comments about my body. I still am having a hard time accepting the weight gain and the lack of control I have over my body right now. But I am trying to stay positive and "in the moment". I'm doubtful we will have more children after this so I try to remind myself of that and say, "This is the only time you will ever be 28 weeks pregnant. Enjoy it." I must look pretty miserable as a teacher at school who I don't really talk to came up to me last week and told me she hated pregnancy and it's ok; she loves her kids and it's worth it in the end. It was nice to hear that someone else felt the same way.

Looking Forward: Being done work. I have two more weeks left!

This dress is one of my new arrivals from Motherhood Maternity. I was so tired of wearing cheap Old Navy dresses everyday, that I splurged on five cotton summer dresses. I was anxiously awaiting their arrival for over a week and kept checking my tracking number online.

On the day my dresses were due to arrive, I pulled into my driveway and failed to see any telltale signs of a package. A lot of curse words left my lips.

However, my package was located. The UPS man left it by our garage door. Whew!

I'm grateful to have some pretty summer dresses to get me through the next couple of months. They make me feel more like myself.

I need to have a venting session about the weird things people say to pregnant women. Today, I heard such gems as:

"I think you grew over the weekend."

Setting down the phone after calling parents at school. "Are you going to hold the phone up to your belly?"

Buying a popsicle. "Baby must be craving lime." No, it's hot and I can't freaking eat the ice cream I really want."

Being yelled at from within a random house while walking by. "Congratulations!"

I'm beginning to feel like just a carrier for this baby. KDot is disappearing, it's all about the belly.

On the fashion front, I'm thankful I am not hugely pregnant in the winter as I wouldn't be able to wear maxi dresses. They are truly a lifesaver.KDothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13947102395989006310noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-649770831315511929.post-50834785566955631232013-06-04T19:49:00.000-03:002013-06-04T19:49:16.643-03:00Inspire

I wore this last week to a staff retirement dinner. I gave in and ordered a batch of pretty dresses to get me through prom/graduation/wedging season. Unfortunately, they arrived the day after this event.

I tried my best to dress up one of the few dresses that fits me. I was worried that I would be under-dressed but as it was a very hot day, everyone was in casual little sundresses. Whew!

One of the retirees was a personal mentor of mine. He helped me a lot during my first years of teaching and is an example of the type of history teacher I want to become.

There were a lot of speeches and some great stories about the two teachers who retired. One story I really took to heart. My mentor every year threw out all his "stuff". For those not familiar to teaching, we keep a binder of "stuff" (lesson plans) to be used next year. My mentor said, "New students deserve new ideas." He started fresh every year.

This really brought home how complacent I've become with my job lately, especially this past semester. I've been doing the same old thing with little change. After my maternity leave, I really want to get back to work at becoming a better teacher. Even in retirement, my mentor is still inspiring me!KDothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13947102395989006310noreply@blogger.com0
