Dress: RW & Co
Killa Shoes: The Bay
Hat: H&M

You may be seeing lots pf hats in the days that follow. It's vacation time and I am spending a lot of time in our pool. Hair styling is at an all time low priority. Luckily, hats cover up messy hair! I heart hats!

Summer Vacation!

June 29, 2011

June 29, 2011

Dress: Old Navy available here
Hat: H&M
Sandals: Simply Vera from Kohl's

At this time last year, I owned one maxi dress but I never wore it. I thought it was a style that didn't suit me. Flash forward a year and I now am in love with maxis and own four. The maxi looks put together but feels like I am wearing pajamas, which is the perfect recipe for my first day of summer vacation!

Dress: J Crew Collection found on EBay
Shoes: Naturalizer
Bracelets: Thrifted, The Bay and Joe Fresh

Look at me, I'm accessorizing!

I rarely wear bracelets mostly because I find they bang against my laptop while I'm typing at work. But today was a sitting and listening kind of day so I threw on a whole pile of bracelets. And I felt fancy while wearing them.

Happy weekend!

Graduation

Sweater: J Crew

Dress: Anthropologie
Shoes: Karen Scott from The Bay

Tuesday night was graduation, aka another chance for me to dig out a pretty frock. I choose my beloved tea cup dress. Unlike many past graduations, this was one cold so I had to add a sweater. It kind of tames the ultra girlishness down.

It was a great graduation as it was the first time where I knew most of the students. It was the graduating year of my first batch of grade 9s. It was neat to see them all grown up. I got a big kick out of them asking for hugs or pictures. I love that they remembered me!

Only a few days of professional development meetings left and then I am DONE!

What I Wore Yesterday

June 21, 2011

Sweater: J Crew
Tank: J crew
Skirt: Banana Republic
Shoes: Naturalizer

One of the advantages of the end of the teaching year is that the day starts later. I've been enjoying my extra few minutes of sleep time. I usually get my clothes ready the night before but have been procrastinating lately (because I think I have loads of time in the morning) which has resulted in me running around 5 minutes before I am suppose to leave for work screaming, "I have nothing to wear."

Yesterday was such a morning. I grabbed this Banana Republic skirt because it was expensive and I rarely wear it. Looking at the pictures, I realize why. The oval seam at the top of the skirt is highlighting an area I usually like to downplay. Hence, I spent the day slightly uncomfortable.

I've not given up on the skirt. I'll try to find a solution to cover the seams because the darn skirt cost so much and I want to get some use out of it!

Prom!

Dress: Bob Mackie from Winners
Purse: Danier Leather
Shoes: The Bay
Pearls: RDog

It's one of my favorite parts of being a high school teacher; prom! The kids are dressed up and looking spiffy. They are filled with so much excitement and hope for what is to come.

It's also an excuse for me and my good teacher friend, J, to dress up! I also sneak a few "raise the roof" moves in the corner. My dancing skills are pretty lame but I still like to boogie.

The best part of the night involved a student I taught in grade 8 and 9. In his grade 12 year, he is in my homeroom. We didn't think he was going to graduate but I was able to confirm this morning that he is. I couldn't hold in the good news when I saw. His reaction was priceless. He gave me a huge hug, told me he loved me (lol) and ran screaming across the parking lot to pick up his mom off the ground and twirl her around.

It was one of those moments I will file away to think of when times are tough and I forget why I entered this profession.

Dust and Bleach Marks

June 14, 2011

June 14, 2011

Capris: J Crew
Blouse: Land's End Canvas
Sweater: J Crew
Shoes: Keds

Today was a packing and cleaning day so I needed to wear clothes that were appropriate for lots of bending over and climbing (to take my classroom posters down).

The pants were a darker blue in the morning. All day I caught myself wiping my hands on my pants, leaving many dusty hand prints. Such are the perils of taking outfit pictures at the end of the day.

My beloved Keds wedges have been looking a little grimy. The white trim had slowly turned brown. Last night, I had the brilliant idea to take a bleach pen to the grimy parts. Great idea in theory but in reality the grimy white parts are still grimy and the blue part of the shoe now has pink bleach dots.

Way to go KDot. Don't worry, these shoes had a good run and I'm still going to wear them for a little bit longer because I like them that much!

My New Favorite Belt - On Sale!

My new favorite belt is Land's End Women's Leather Belt available here.

You can see me wearing it here and here. I love this belt because it has the right amount of ruggedness to tone down an ultra girly outfit.

Yesterday, Epyptomaniac posted a great code which brings this belt down to $11. And there's free shipping too. Code: LANDSEND & pin: 1140 gives you an extra 25% off and free shipping.

It's such a great deal, I just had to share. Oh, and to any Canadian readers out there; if your purchase is under $16, there is no duty.

Happy shopping!

Robin Watch 2011

Today was our last day with the robins.

The biggest robin flew out of the nest early this morning and quickly disappeared.

The remaining robins then had their lunch.

Robins

And then got their bums cleaned.

Robins

After Momma Robin demonstrated many times how flying works, the next robin got up the courage to give it a try. Here he is getting up the courage to go.

Robins

He wasn't very successful and landed on the deck below.

Robins

He decided to just walk.

Robins

He walked through the backyard and into the driveway.

Robins

With Momma Robin following to keep an eye on things.

Robins

And then there was one.

Robins

This little fella decided to go slow with this flying thing, despite his mother flying in and out of the nest all day while screaming at him to get out of her house.

Finally, at the end of the day, he hesitantly flew out on to our lawn where he chilled for a bit. He then started following his momma around as she found some worms for him.

Now we are left with an empty nest.

Robins

It still holds the 4th egg that did not hatch.

It was bittersweet to see the robins go,. We had such fun watching them. On the bright side, we are happy to go out into our backyard without being accosted by two angry robins.

At least we thought we wouldn't be yelled at any more.

The momma must be having a yard time letting go of her little ones. She keeps flying in and out of the empty nest. When RDog went outside to BBQ our supper, she threw a screaming fit when she saw him near her nest.

After the past month, a robin's scream will forever be ingrained in my memory.

So I Did

June 10, 2011

June 10, 2011

June 10, 2011

Golf shirt: Lacoste
Skirt: RW
Shoes: Keds
Shades: Raybans

Today I felt like wearing every blue item I own, so I did. No, I'm just being silly. I own waaay more blue stuff than this but it kind of looked like that when I was done dressing.

This outfit stemmed from my urge to wear a golf shirt today. I have a large collection of golf shirts from a phase a couple of years ago. It must have been the "I should dress like my husband" phase. RDog's summer uniform is a golf shirt and khakis.

But the golf shirt is not totally my style so my large collection sits unworn in my closet. This morning, this shirt yelled out to me to wear it, so I did.

The end.

Hot Days and Robin Naps

June 9, 2011

June 9, 2011

Dress: Gap

Belt (my new favorite): Land's End

Shoes: Land's End Canvas

Earrings: Flea Market

I'm not one for earrings but this morning this outfit was calling for some dangling earrings. It was a hot one today so this dress was all about (trying) to stay cool.

In a robin update, the babies are getting bigger everyday. They have grown black fur and their eyes are open. They peek over the top of the nest often.

We caught this one taking a snooze with its head hanging out of the nest. It was taken from inside so we didn't disrupt the nap.

Marking Makes Me Sleepy

June 8, 2011

June 8, 2011

June 8, 2011

T-shirt: J Crew
Tank: Old Navy
Skirt: Thrifted
Shoes: Naturalizer

Today my grade 11s wrote their English exam. I knew I was going to spend most of my day locked in my classroom marking away so I wanted to be comfortable (but stay stylish).

The skirt is wrinkled because instead of coming home and cooking supper for dear RDog, I came home and had a nap. Marking makes me sleepy!

I'd like to give a shout out to those who have became followers of my blog over the past few days. It always puts a smile on my face when I open my blog and see that number go up. Thank you for reading!
